CERF's Mentorship Program, 2026-2027 Edition

CERF is pleased to offer another year of the mentorship program for all active CERF members and hopes you will consider joining us. The program will match individuals at any career stage with a mentor within the CERF community. The purpose? To help professionals, at all career stages, benefit from the support and guidance of longstanding CERF members through discussions, resource sharing, and even networking.

The 1-year mentorship program will provide resources to help guide conversations between mentees and mentors, help outline a successful mentorship relationship, and facilitate open discussions about career paths, work-life balance, and much more. This year, we will also include some additional virtual sessions and webinars, and we will continue building our networks using the CERF Mentorship Program Online Community.

Mentorship teaches us how to be professionals, mentorship supports career building, and mentorship can influence who continues in the coastal and estuarine workforce.

You may sign up as both a mentor and mentee, but you must complete both forms.

Who would be a great mentee?

YOU! The truth is, no matter your career level, how old you are, or what your background is, everyone is always a mentee. Interacting with your mentor can be intellectually stimulating, improve your communication skills, and provide a different point of view about your academic or career aspirations and opportunities. You can learn so much! New to CERF and looking to make professional connections to explore your future? Looking to explore other career fields, make a change, or gain new skills? Seeking support to help you succeed in your current field of study or career? Then becoming a mentee is right for you!

Who would be a great mentor?

YOU! You’re an active CERF member looking to support your peers and colleagues through open conversations, networking, and sharing resources. As we work to build a more diverse and vibrant Coastal and Estuarine Research Federation, there will always be someone who could benefit from your experience. Through this mentorship experience, you may build long-lasting relationships, and you may end up with a new student, post-doc, colleague, or lifelong friend. Set the tone for the Federation by inspiring the next generation of leaders and scientists and by helping peers and colleagues succeed through your service as a mentor for CERF’s mentorship program!
