The Rising TIDES (Toward an Inclusive, Diverse, and Enriched Society) Program supports students and recent graduates from groups underrepresented in CERF disciplines to participate in a year-long program with mentoring, professional development, and networking to increase their sense of belonging and encourage them to pursue careers in marine science. Rising TIDES includes structured and unstructured engagement within and among mentoring groups; unique professional development, networking, and cohort-building opportunities; and full funding to attend three in-person conferences: the CERF Biennial Conference, a regional Affiliate Society meeting, and the Restore America’s Estuaries Summit. Support is also provided for near-peer mentors (alums of Rising TIDES) and more experienced members who act as professional mentors. A critical part of Rising TIDES is cultivating a culture of belonging in CERF by infusing diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the conference and all CERF activities.

Q: Are international students eligible? 
A: Yes, you do not need to be a US citizen or attending a US institution to apply.

Q: Am I eligible if I graduate before the program starts/ends? 
A: Yes, as long as you are a student or within one year of graduation and actively seeking employment when you apply, you are eligible.

Q: Does coral reef research count as "coastal and estuarine"?
A: Yes, coral reef research is considered relevant to CERF.

Q: As a recent graduate, I have been looking for a job (or exploring options to further my education), but it's been over a year since I graduated. Am I still eligible? 
A: We understand that people in transition would benefit from attending CERF; however, we must create some limits on this; therefore, we will only accept applications from those who graduate on or after April 26. Please consider applying for a participation award or volunteer worker program to receive support to attend CERF.
