Donate to CERF

Your generous voluntary contributions are critical in helping CERF meet its mission. Donations help support student travel and scholarships, scientific awards, and the implementation of CERF special initiatives. Since 2001, CERF has provided student travel awards for more than 750 deserving students.  Donations allow us to honor the best physical oceanography paper in the journal Estuaries and Coasts every two years. They also support efforts to broaden participation in coastal and estuarine science through travel support for Tribal and First Nations participants to attend the Biennial Conference, and outreach to underrepresented and underserved minority early career scientists. Help us continue these programs and support new initiatives by giving today!

Funds

CERF provides several opportunities to support the organization through various funds.

William E. Odum/Scott W. Nixon Memorial Fund

Donate to the Odum/Nixon Memorial Fund

The Odum/Nixon Memorial Fund supports student and early career professional activities, including travel to participate in CERF meetings. Since 2001, this fund has awarded travel grants to more than 650 students.

The William E. Odum Memorial Fund was established in 1991 to honor William Odum, a valuable leader, scientist, and dedicated teacher in the field of estuarine science. At the time of his death, Bill was a member of the CERF Governing Board, and was working on a spectrum of problems faced by graduate students.

The Scott W. Nixon Memorial Fund was created in 2012 to honor Scott Nixon’s lifelong and broad contributions to the knowledge and stewardship of our coasts and estuaries. Scott was a longtime supporter, member, and leader of CERF.

Donald Pritchard Fund

Donate to the Donald Pritchard Fund

The Donald Pritchard Fund fosters the participation of physical oceanographers in the Federation and its journal, Estuaries and Coasts, primarily by supporting the Pritchard Award, recognizing the author(s) of the best physical oceanography paper published in Estuaries and Coasts within a two-year interval between CERF conferences.

The Donald Pritchard Fund was created by the CERF Governing Board in 2002 to honor the memory of Donald Pritchard and his contributions to estuarine research.

CERF Enhancement Fund

Donate to the CERF Enhancement Fund

The purpose of this fund is to provide financial support for special projects, including workshops, distribution of Estuaries and Coasts to developing county libraries, transportation of distinguished scientists to CERF scientific meetings, support of blue-ribbon committees, and publication materials beyond the journal. The funds may be used at the discretion of the Governing Board.

CERF Legacy Fund

The Legacy Fund honors scientists, resource managers, decision-makers, educators, and others for their important contributions to the understanding and wise stewardship of estuarine and coastal ecosystems worldwide. The Fund supports unique and valuable enhancements to the research or career development of student and early-career members of the Federation.

The Legacy Fund was first established in 2018 with a generous donation of $12,333 in honor of Holly Greening’s retirement.
