Columbia River Gorge Restoration -- SOLD OUT

The Lower Columbia River is one of 28 estuaries within EPA’s National Estuary Program.  The upstream section of the lower Columbia is included within the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, and designated part of the Ice Age Floods National Geologic Trail, managed through the National Park Service. Restoration activities in this narrow area of the lower river are focused on restoring floodplain wetlands key for rearing and refugia for migrating anadromous fish and overwintering and migratory waterfowl using the Pacific Flyway. Restoration techniques have included improving fish passage to historic habitats; adding large wood structures and encouraging beaver activity; reducing diversions to protect cold water sources for cold water species (salmon and steelhead) and re-vegetation of native species. Restoration ecologists at the Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership will lead the tour to several restoration sites within the Gorge, including Horsetail/Oneonta Creeks, Rooster Rock State Park, Wahkeena Creek and Multnomah Falls. We anticipate a 30 minute one-way climb (60 minutes total) to view an overlook of the Horsetail/Oneonta Creek restoration project, which also has a tremendous view of the Gorge. The tour will end at Multnomah Falls, the most highly visited natural site within Oregon.

Box lunch and transportation will be provided. Please bring rain gear, warm clothing and hiking boots.
